Before we were married, I brought my husband home to spend Thanksgiving with me and my family. That was the first time he was at a Filipino home and was surprised when we sat at the table and there wasn't a knife as part of his silverware. I tried to explain to him that part of Filipino culture had you eat with your hands and that most dishes were bite-sized and didn't require a knife to cut meat. He still demanded a knife...

I know it came from more experience, but Eric never really had trouble without a knife. Occasionally, mom will ask him if he needed a knife, but most of the time he got used to it. A lot of times he'd just eat with a fork anyway, like at his own house. So I guess it didn't matter much to him. It depends on the person...
Hilarious! Cultures are fun and could become problematic. I was raised eating with my hands as well as utensils. I do remember having to explain myself every time I had a friend come over for dinner and we were eating with our hands. Super annoying after awhile.
